Coppell City Council to discuss North Texas rail, auto-citation devices

When the Coppell City Council meets in regular session this Tues. (July 22) at 5:30 p.m. in their Town Center chambers, they'll kick off with an executive agenda highlighted by property purchase and zoning considerations.

Following this closed-door session will be a series of public discussion topics, including:

* the serving of alcohol at city-sponsored events

* the Texas Municipal League's legislative agenda

* North Texas rail considerations

During the regular session, the council will consider approving the purchase of 12 AutoCITE (automatic citation) issuance devices, which network directly with the court system to expedite issuance of, for instance, a traffic ticket. The devices would further streamline the ticket issuance process by printing out the citation, so the cop on the scene doesn't have to hand-write it. (How convEEEEnient!)

The money to purchase these AutoCITE thingies ($75,478) would be derived from monies existing in the Police Forfeiture/Seizure fund.

There will also be discussion regarding the possibility of the city entering into an agreement with the Coppell Economic Development Foundation for purposes of historic preservation, relating to development in Old Coppell.

And finally, discussion will return yet again to the issue of the possible serving of alcoholic beverages in city facilities during city-sponsored events, and how that activity might be permitted (as in, "obtaining a permit for") by the City Manager's office.

Rounding out the evening will be reports from the various committees, such as school districts, mobility coalition, environmental initiatives, hospital authority and social services.

Ghostland Observatory Yes, they play here a lot because they are from Austin. No, that doesn't mean you can't see them again. Of course they will be back, but is that any excuse to not check out what some call the best live act this side of I-10? Didn't think so. "image by: Dániel Perlaky" '06 More info
