It's that time again. The Hurst Police Department has released its weekly Crime Updates for both businesses and residences within the city. The following crimes were reported between Sunday July 17 and Saturday July 19:
Air-conditioning units attract thieves mainly because of their mysterious power to make things not so goddamn hot.
Attempted kidnapping
An attempted kidnapping occurred Wednesday between 3:20pm and 5:20pm at North East Mall (1100 Melbourne Road). A young boy near the mall's theater was approached from behind by suspect, who put hands on boy’s shoulders and told him to come with him. The boy told the suspect no and suspect left. (Suspect: Hispanic Male, 28-35 yoa, 5’08” – 5’10”, tattoo on left arm, several gold chains around neck, blue short-sleeved Adidas shirt.)
Purloined purses
Around 6:30 on the next day at the same mall, two women grabbed an armful purses from a department store and fled the scene. (Suspect #1: Black Female, 25 yoa, 5’02”, 170 lbs, white t-shirt. Suspect #2: Black Female, 30-39 yoa, 5’02”, 145 lbs, greased-back black hair, gold teeth, blue tank top. )
Summer fun
Also during this week, five different instances of air-conditioner thefts were reported.
The first occurred prior to Monday at 9:18 am at 1800 Harwood Ct (an office complex): two outside air-conditioning units were taken. Two different businesses—one at 1700 Hurstview Drive and one at 1800 Harwood Court (yes, same place)—both had their outside units taken between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. A home near 800 Chase Circle had its unit taken sometime before Sunday at 1 a.m., as did another home near 600 Highview Lane at an unknown time between Tuesday evenin and Wednesday morning.
