Baron and Blue Foundation awards $330,000 to 19 Dallas-area nonprofit organizations

DALLAS — The Baron and Blue Foundation announced today that it has awarded $330,000 in grants to 19 Dallas-based nonprofit organizations during its first cycle of funding for 2008. Each of the grant recipients is dedicated to assisting the homeless and less fortunate in Dallas County by providing shelter, food, clothing, substance abuse treatment, medical assistance and/or support.

The nonprofit organizations receiving grants are Attitudes & Attire, Austin Street Center, Captain Hope's Kids, Dallas Furniture Bank, Dallas Services, Family Gateway, Genesis Women's Shelter, Homeward Bound, Interfaith Housing Coalition, Jonathan's Place, North Texas Food Bank, Parkland Foundation, Promise House, Rainbow Days, The Stewpot, Turtle Creek Manor, Union Gospel Mission, Vogel Alcove and Wilkinson Center.

Earlier this year, The Baron and Blue Foundation also awarded the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance $125,000 as the second part of a two-year commitment to provide general operating support for MDHA and its programs. One of MDHA's projects is The Bridge, the recently opened, multi-purpose facility dedicated to serving homeless men and women by giving them access to multiple services in one location.

"We are proud to support Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance and The Bridge, as Dallas has significant need for a facility focused on helping the chronically homeless," remarked co-founder Fred Baron. "Many who have been living on the streets a long time suffer from physical disabilities, mental illness and addiction, and The Bridge will give them a way to re-connect to the services and support they urgently need."

Founded by attorneys Fred Baron and Lisa Blue in 2002, The Baron and Blue Foundation strives to enhance the function of non-profit organizations in the Dallas community by providing assistance to existing programs and other grassroots organizations focusing on homelessness, transitional housing and the needs of the underserved.
