2nd Sunnyvale ISD official assigned to investigate assault charges has resigned
Diana Freeman, Sunnyvale Middle School principal, was assigned the task of investigating allegations that five eighth-graders sexually assaulted younger boys in the school's locker room. After coming under criticism when she determined that the acts were nothing more than hazing an bullying, Freeman resigned in May (reportedly, she did not resign because of the investigation). ISD Athletic Director Mike Krone put into place safety procedures to prevent future attacks, but was unnerved by the experience and decided to resign from his post.
Mr. Krone has been reassigned as elementary school P.E. teacher.
The Sheriff's Department, who stepped in after Freeman's initial investigation, concluded that charges of sexual assault should be brought against the five eighth-graders.
