Collin Gouldin of Plano breaks the world record of most strawberries dipped in chocolate in one minute

Collin Gouldin of Plano broke the world record Saturday of most hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries in one minute. That's most dipped, not most eaten. Gouldin, (you may recognize him as a user on our site and/or drummer of Watching Cars), beat the current record of 45 (made by Food Network southern belle Paula Deen) by 8 strawberries for a grand total of 53 covered strawberries all in the time span of one minute.

This isn't the first time Gouldin has attempted to break a world record. About four years ago he tried to break the world records for shortest and longest parades, but he was stopped short by Guiness World Records who denied his application for an attempt. In order to actually get GWR to authorize your world record, you first must apply to make an official attempt. If they approve your application for an attempt, you must then make sure to provide a laundry list of materials, including photos, video, expert statements by witnesses, and media coverage. It's either that or pay the expenses for a Guiness rep to come out and watch you. Once you have all that set up, you must abide by the rules allotted to the world record you are trying to break.

Some of the guidelines for most strawberries dipped in chocolate in 1 minute include: the strawberries must start in one bowl with melted chocolate in another bowl, only one hand must be used in the attempt with the other behind their back, strawberries must be dipped up to the stalk, etc. The whole ordeal is quite a process.

Gouldin wasn't necessarily an avid dipper in any way prior to this attempt, he's just always wanted to win a world record. Then he saw Paula Deen break the world record for most strawberries dipped in chocolate in 1 minute on the show Paula's Party and thought he could definitely beat her. After Gouldin beat the record, covered in sticky chocolate, he was relatively calm. "It will hit when I get the plaque from Guiness and the official blue sheet," he said. And does Gouldin's future hold another world record attempt? "There is never a last stunt," he said, "there is always something in the books." I think his next stunt should be the most live rattlesnakes held in the mouth by their tails without any assistance. And yeah, we'll send the interns out to cover that one.

Congratulations, Collin. No one from Pegasus News was there with a video camera? Can we get another attempt on tape?

I'm really really dredging for something snide to say - but it is much cooler than anything I had planned for this week so congrats.

I'm so rarely speechless. You and the prayer shut-in in one week. Hope this ain't a trend.

That's awesome! Drummers have quick hands and YOU ROCK!! The only real question here is who got to eat all the dipped strawberries?

Collin Gouldin, says:

Unfortunately, they had to be thrown out... We saved a lot of the chocolate used from the test runs and reused it for the real event. But upon melting the recycled chocolate we discovered 2 strawberries that had been left behind, and had had two weeks to get really nasty. Making the chocolate not too great for eating. Fortunately, for everyone who was there, i had made some really nice edible strawberries and other tasty snacks.

The rapture of pre-Olympic rotting berries 'Left Behind' in re-cycled Plano-choco is but a prelude to taste-budding genius.

Thank goodness they specified Collin Gouldin (USA). I do wish it included a photo. The Strawberry Dipping impostors up here in Plano are getting out of hand.
