Dallas County’s $34 million budget shortfall forces jail staff cuts
DALLAS After adding 400 jobs to bring jails into compliance under the threat of Federal lawsuits, Sheriff Lupe Valdez is going to have to cut as many as 76 positions to save the county $4.4 million. County commissioners want to reduce her budget by $6 million. The sheriff told the DMN she will decide who to cut rather than leaving it to the commissioners, and she hopes to retrain as many of her staff as possible for other county jobs.

Hopefully that number includes benefits, pension, etc...otherwise, just under $58k a year ain't too shabby.
