Dallas ISD parents have option to prevent release of student information
Information such as the student’s name, address, phone number, date and place of birth and most recent school attended may be withheld.
DALLAS Parents whose children attend Dallas Independent School District schools may inform school authorities of their desire to prevent student directory information from being released.
Information such as the student’s name, address, phone number, date and place of birth and most recent school attended, may be withheld by signing and returning the form available in the student handbook, which will be distributed to students early in the semester.
Unless this form is signed and returned within the allotted time frame, directory information may be released by Dallas ISD to anyone, including non-Dallas ISD affiliated organizations that request it, unless the student’s parent or legal guardian has objected to the release of information in writing.
Parents may opt out of the release of student directory information by returning the form each year the student is enrolled in school. The form must be signed and returned within 15 days from the time the student handbook is distributed.
To be in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Dallas ISD will release to military recruiters and institutions of higher education, upon request, secondary school students’ name, address, and telephone listing, unless the parent or guardian directs Dallas ISD not to release this information without prior written consent.
Detailed information about parental rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act may be found in the Student Handbook. Parents also may review this information by visiting the district’s Web site at www.dallasisd.org under the heading “Inside Dallas ISD.”
For more information, contact your local school.

Pavel Lishin, says:
You'd think that the information would be private by default. Is this sort of thing open only to recruiters, or can I start collecting names and phone numbers as well?
