A Midsummer Night's Dream
- When: Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 8:15 p.m.
- Where: Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre, 1500 Tenison Parkway, Dallas
- Cost: Free
- Age limit: All ages
Last summer, I had mentioned how Junior Players gave me my start in the theater world a few years back with their awesome summer Shakespeare in the Park production in conjunction with Shakespeare Dallas. Providing "creative opportunities to low-income youth during the non-school hours through free after-school and summer arts education programs," this company puts on a very impressive production every summer for free at the Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre. Even though it stars high schoolers from all over the metroplex, their productions are of high quality.
This summer, they will be performing the classic A Midsummer Night's Dream, but it will be Bollywood-ized. If you don't know, the show follows the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke and Duchess, Theseus and Hippolyta, and with the fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest.
Don't forget to bring a picnic, alcohol, blankets, friends and family to enjoy some Shakespeare under the stars. Since it is free, a donation is always suggested.
