DALLAS Sushi on McKinney, the sushi restaurant which has been on McKinney pretty much forever, will close on August 15, says Belo's Eats blog. Bill A. gets the word from an employee that the closure isn't due to the crap economy but instead owner Ben Sanada wants to retire. He'll leave behind a devoted following for the restaurant, which first opened in 1986. You don't see too many places open that long in Dallas.

Very sad news. I remember going here with the parents and sibs so many times after it opened that I basically had that series of pictures that was always projected onto the wall memorized (I don't think they ever changed it). I'll have to stop in for one last devil roll before it closes.

I noted on Frontburner that SoM was where my wife and I had our first date. Sad to see it go.

You really need to try Sushi Axiom on Henderson. Great sushi, fairly priced.

We are so disappointed to see Sushi on McKinney shut its doors after 22 years. We love Chica and Hiro and all the wonderful staff. My husband & I have been eating sushi there every Friday night for over 10 years now. I will miss the spicy tuna rolls, the Special #10, the Robb Roll, and the Hiro Special. We tried Sushi Axiom on Henderson last week - it was fantastic - a little fancy smancy - but terrific. Farewell, Sushi on McKinney - we will miss you!!!

That's very good news for me -- I liked the place, but it was my wife's all time favorite. When the wife's happy, everybody's happy!
