Casa Mañana’s President and Executive Producer Denton Yockey announced today that Richard Kind, star of stage and screen, will replace Lou Diamond Phillips in the upcoming production of Damn Yankees, August 12 – 17 at Casa Mañana Theatre.

“Due to his busy professional career, our good friend Lou Diamond Phillips is no longer available to perform in this special engagement,” states Yockey. “Lou was really looking forward to his starring role in our production, and hopes to return to Fort Worth again soon.”

Audiences will recognize Kind from his work on the hit comedies "Mad About You" and "Spin City." In addition to his extensive work on television, he has also starred in numerous shows on stage including the Broadway productions of The Producers, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, just to name a few.

“We are pleased to announce that Richard Kind, star of stage and screen, has agreed to perform the role of ‘Applegate’ in our upcoming production,” states Yockey. “Richard brings a sense of gleeful silliness to the role of the devil. We are looking forward to his performance.”

Damn Yankees is a devilishly clever musical comedy! A middle aged man finds himself endlessly frustrated that his beloved baseball team is constantly thwarted by the New York Yankees. In desperation, he sells his soul to the Devil (Richard Kind) for a chance to lead his team to victory in the pennant race against those damn Yankees. Though his dreams of success and fame get closer every day, he finds himself yearning more and more for the life, and the wife, he left behind. Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Damn Yankees features the classic songs, “Heart,” “Two Lost Souls,” “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO,” “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets,” and “Those Were The Good Old Days.”

Additional cast members include Lindsay Roginski as “Lola”. Audiences will recall Roginski’s recent performance as “Roxie” in the national tour of Chicago at the Bass Performance Hall. Christopher Deaton is “Young Joe Hardy.” Audiences will recall Deaton’s performance as “The Prince” in Cinderella at the Bass Performance Hall. Hal Davis is “Old Joe Boyd.” Audiences will recall Davis’s performance as “Captain Von Trapp” in The Sound of Music at the Bass Performance Hall, or as “Daddy Warbucks” in Annie at Casa Mañana Theatre. Wendy Welch is “Meg Boyd.” Audiences will recall Welch’s performance as “Mrs. Cratchit” in A Christmas Carol at the Bass Performance Hall.

Other cast members include: Dana Winkle as “Gloria Thorpe,” John O’Creagh as “Van Buren,” Lois Sonnier as “Doris,” Melissa Jobe as “Sister,” Greg Dulcie as “Welch,” Doug LoPachin as “Commissioner,” Dwight Sandell as “Postmaster,” Jim Johnson as “Rocky,” Brad Jackson as “Smokey,” and C. Nicholas Morris as “Linville.”
