Gay List Daily’s must-do events: July 31 - Aug. 6

It’s hot. Everyone is on vacation but you. And you’re ready to throw the world’s biggest pity party. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with some outings to chase away blues and the heat-rash reds, too. And for the most part they are all air-conditioned. Yep, social outings without the sweaty crevices. We know how you like to roll. Well, except for the Organic Farmers Market – can’t do anything about that. Make sure to wear a light-colored shirt so your moist pits don’t scare away the cute boys.

So Sexy, You’ll Get An Art On: Sehnsucht (Aspiration)

Tonight, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

We’ve never met gay artist Jeremy Kost, but word on the street is that he has an awfully large Polaroid. And he knows how to use it. But he’s just one of many artists exploring the theme of beauty (read: boys in tighty whities making wacky faces) through paintings, photos, videos and works on paper during the Sehnsucht show curated by Georges Araomas. For those of you not up on your German, Sehnsucht loosely translates to “aspiration” or “longing.” As in, we really Sehnsucht our personal trainer will wear those clingy workout shorts again.

Cost: Free; Light & Sie; www.lightandsie.com

We Smell A Rat (Pack): Hunter Sullivan

Tonight, 7:30 - 11:00 p.m.

All jazzed up with nowhere to go? Like a siren in a tuxedo, local cutie and crooner Hunter Sullivan is transforming Victory Tavern into a dinner club of days gone by. Expect songs from Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and maybe a sudden, inescapable swooning feeling.

Cost: Complimentary with dinner, reservations recommended; Victory Tavern (in Victory Park); www.victorytavern.com

E-I, E-I, Grow: Organic Farmers Market

Saturday, August 2, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Pesky pesticides turning your radishes into Radon? It’s time to go to the big “O” - no, not Oprah, although she can fix anything. “O” as in organic. One Arts Plaza presents this farm-fresh foodie fest in conjunction with Whole Foods.

Cost: Free; One Arts Plaza; www.artsplazaevents.com/calendar.html

Nerd Up: “Weird Al” Yankovic

Wednesday, August 6, 8:00 p.m. It’s time to break out your best “Anastasia Beaverhausen” disguise and indulge in the guilty parody pleasure of “Weird Al.” Sure, he’s no Céline Dion, but he is a wiz with the accordion. And who can resist a stirring comedy polka number? It’s okay, we won’t call you out for knowing all the words to “Eat It” either.

Tickets: $39 - $49; Nokia Theater; www.nokialivedfw.com

Oh, Behave!: Ain't Misbehavin'

Through Sunday, August 10

The music of “Fats” Waller has never sounded “phatter” than when belted out during this music review of the Harlem Renaissance. Expect shimmyin’, shakin’ and the joint to be jumpin’.

Tickets: $16 to $25; Jubilee Theatre; www.jubileetheatre.org

If I were a homosexual, I would pretty much follow Hunter Sullivan everywhere.

Everywhere.

You would do that anyway.

Haven't seen him in months, so yeah - guess I'm due. Needs more shows at Lee Harvey's with the big band.

I'd head to Victory Tavern if I didn't already have crap going on tonight. =(

Today

The Trains at NorthPark Oh, no! Godzilla got into the Northpark train exhibit! But don't worry, the engineers will have it back up and running in time for your mall visit. And now, BEFORE the big holiday rush, is the best time to see them, before hundreds of drooling children take over the enclosure after Thanksgiving. More info
