Metro: Minnie profiled Irving's city manager. Dallas Housing Authority president Ann Lott resigned after the revelation the DHA paid rent for dead people. Steve-O of West and Clear urges Mayor Moncrief to adopt a master plan for urban gas drilling. Dallas Voice reports that County Judge Jim Foster will seek re-election.
Acting out: John Garcia of The Column reviewed Jersey Boys at the Fair Park Music Hall and Garland Summer Musicals' The Will Rogers Follies. Carol Rice of Rover Dramawerks reviews Greater Lewisville Community Theatre's Oklahoma! Mark-Brian Sonna saw Biography presented by Anagram Productions. I also reviewed Junior Players' A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Flix: With Movie Guy John on vacation it's been a slow week, but check the movie tab Friday for reviews of American Teen, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Swing Vote and The Last Mistress. Also Friday, tickets go on sale for screenings at Fort Worth's newly updated IMAX theater. The Dallas Video Festival continues this weekend at Conduit Gallery. Meanwhile, "Mobile Fresh Films" made in Dallas are online for viewing and voting.

Music: Brenna listened to Electric Mountain Rotten Apple Gang and the Blackbird Harmony. Laura S. posted a lovely photo gallery from the most recent Pegasus News Local Music Showcase. Todd wrote an impressionistic review of Rockstar Mayhem, and 2K7 took pictures. Erin praises Gutterth's Compilation One. North Dallas Gazette reports on the upcoming Train in the Distance benefit concert in Plano. Emmylou Harris and Alejandro Escovedo canceled upcoming tour stops, while new shows were announced by Jason Mraz, Three Dog Night, John Hiatt, the Black Crowes and more.
Best Bites: Closings for the week include the entire Plano-based Bennigan's chain, Kitchen 1924, Milwaukee Joe's ice cream, and Sushi Samba. That's not the only bad news for fans of raw fish: Sushi on McKinney owner Ben Sanada announced his retirement, and celebrity chef Casey Thompson left Shinsei. Speaking of celebrities, Suze owner Lisa Garza lost her bid to be The Next Food Network Star (surprise, surprise). In happier news, Cremona Bistro is reopening and Black Velvet apricots are in season.

Sports: The Rangers beat the stuffing out of the American League's worst team, and are now in second place in their division. College Football Top Ten says TCU has this fall's toughest non-BCS conference schedule. FC Dallas trounced the L.A. Galaxy and announced an acquisition, a trade, and a player who is turning down offers to stay. SMU hired a new soccer coach. Monica spent time with an Olympic gold medalist coaching Dallas swimmers. Also in swimming news, Lewisville's Wave Swim Team qualified 87 members for a state meet. Finally, in this week's Cupcheck, Todd answers his angry emails.
Schools: Superintendents from Arlington and Lancaster are under investigation. Dallas Progress reports on the Mayor's back-to-school fair. Orientation is scheduled next week for students from Dallas ISD's academically poor Spruce high school. Dallas' new arts magnet will keep its old name.
The Biz: Irving-based ExxonMobil made history once again, and announced more drilling in Nigeria and Australia. Dallas' DeepNines won its lawsuit against big bad McAfee. Also, EDS' board approved its sale to HP.
