Train in The Distance will be presenting its second and third concerts in a series of concerts designed to raise money and awareness for The American Cancer Society. Sponsored by Teatro delle Muse, the concerts will be held August 15th and 16th starting at 8 p.m. in the Art Centre Theatre in Plano. Tickets are available online at TrainInTheDistance.com for the suggested donation of $15.

Train in The Distance began its concerts in 2006 shortly after Executive Producer Scott Wood finished his chemotherapy. In its inaugural year, Train raised over $5,000 in one concert, earning the respect and sponsorship of The American Cancer Society. In 2007, Train raised over $11,000 with two concerts. What makes Train so special? One hundred percent of all proceeds go directly to The American Cancer Society.

Professional musicians, professional vocalists and the entire support staff all volunteer their time. Teatro delle Muse, the resident company at the Art Centre Theatre is sponsoring the event this summer.

The songs will be familiar to both the young and old. Covers include soft rock ballads of such artists as Billy Joel, Janis Joplin, The Beatles and Dan Fogleberg who died of cancer within the last year. The One Night Only Band, which has been with the event since the beginning will be providing the music. Band members include Randy Linberg, drums; Patrick Kelly, guitar; Brian Coleman, guitar/vocals; John Riherd, bass; M. Shane Hurst, piano/keyboards/vocals; Ande Bewley, John Tillman, Amy Rizzo and Scott Wood all on vocals.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. Founded in 1913, The Society has its national headquarters in Atlanta along with 13 Regional Division offices and 3400 local community offices, involving millions of volunteers across the United States.
