UT Arlington student awarded a NASA fellowship
Elizabeth J. Mitchell, a graduate student in physics at The University of Texas at Arlington, has been awarded a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Graduate Student Research Proposal (GSRP) fellowship.
A geomagnetic storm. Despite what the TV says, yes, there are worse things out there than a D-FW WintryMixofDeath.
What will she study? "Solar wind variations associated with geoeffectiveness of geomagnetic storms," of course.
Beginning July 1, Mitchell will be working with Dr. Ramon E. Lopez at UT Arlington and Dr. James Slavin at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
There Mitchell will classify the variations within the solar wind that produce relatively large geomagnetic storms.
The NASA GSRP will provide funds to support Mitchell's graduate studies and research as well as travel costs to two conferences to present her results. She expects to complete this research and her doctorate in Physics in the next 12 to 18 months.
