Window shatters, disables engine on American Airlines flight from Dallas

The plane could have safely flown to its destination, but crew decided to return to DFW airport.

All 132 passengers and crew members aboard Sunday night's American Airlines flight from Dallas, intended for Fort Myers, Florida, were fine despite a scary episode. 20 minutes into the flight, an outside pane of glass shattered and flew into an engine, disabling it. Cabin pressure was not affected, ~~but oxygen masks did drop~~.

While the windows are three panes thick and the plane could have flown safely without the second engine, the flight crew decided to return to DFW airport. The passengers departed on a flight later that evening.

"Hi, Erin. I was the passenger sitting in THAT seat where the window shattered. The oxygen masks did NOT drop as previously reported. It was a very scary experience. I have only flown 5 times my whole life and don't like to fly so imagine sitting in that seat when the window made a horrible popping noise and just shattered in nano-seconds. I will say the pilot and crew were awesome and handled the situation great. Kudos to the flight crew for landing us safely!"
