Arlington GM plant to stand alone as SUV maker
Are people finally starting to see the light on gas-guzzling SUVs? GM announced Tuesday morning that it will close several SUV and pickup facilities over the next two years, leaving its Arlington plant as the only one making SUVs. The closures are in reaction to a dramatic drop in overall sales for GM, mostly involving SUVs and pickups, which GM attributes to the rising gas prices.
Heck, they're even talking about not making Hummers anymore. I, for one, have never been able to understand why people would want to drive those behemoths -- they're uncomfortable, don't really give you that much more room, and give you about 10 miles per gallon. What's the attraction?
