The Office of Cultural Affairs is getting a bit of a shaft from the City of Dallas' proposed 2008/09 budget plan. The proposed budget not only leaves the OCA empty handed for new and enhanced services, it also cuts their budget for current services by $1.5 million. Combined with the money needed for new services, this leaves the OCA with a total deficit of over $3.5 million.

Members of the Dallas Cultural Affairs Commission gathered at the Latino Cultural Center Monday with key players from Dallas arts organizations to combine forces and form advocacy groups to keep the public arts adequately funded.

"We need to run this like a person would run a political campaign," said Judy Pollock, Chair of the Dallas Cultural Affairs Commission. Pollock reiterated that they needed an advocacy plan and warm bodies to contact council members and attend Town Hall Meetings to convince the City Council that the arts are in fact important and need more funding. If you're interested in joining one of the advocacy groups, contact Judy Pollock at jpol8600@aol.com.
