Dallas-based FedEx Kinko’s getting name changed to FedEx Office
After pretending for four years that it would keep the name Kinko's, FedEx is now changing the name from FedEx Kinko's to FedEx Office, which it says is a better descriptor for the various non-xeroxing-type services available at its retail centers.
Oh, that totally makes sense and it's good we're moving to a paper-less society and you can't hang on to the past and, symbolically, Kinko's bit the dust when its corporate offices moved from California to Dallas in 2001 and it was taken over by FedEx in 2004.
But there was a time when Kinko's represented something, sortof. The company was founded in 1970 by Paul Orfalea, whose curly hair earned him the nickname "Kinko". If you were alive in 1977, it was the place you went to print out your punk-rock fliers. The California branches were always staffed by hipsters. Everyone that worked there was in a band. Excuse me while I go listen to some Dead Kennedys.

Actually, Kinko's moved their HQ to Dallas in 2001, before FedEx purchased them.
