In fashion, the rule of thumb is that you are too old to wear something if you wore it the first time it was trendy. Luckily the same rules don’t apply to theatre. This month, you can celebrate two TV favorites, Gilligan’s Island and The Facts of Life, in new, musically fabulous incarnations. There’s also a tribute to man’s best friend (A Dog’s Life), lawyers gone wild (Sleazy Todd) and “the funniest musical you’ve never seen” (The Drowsy Chaperone). So, get ready for an evening at the theatre, just make sure to leave your bell-bottoms and parachute pants at home.
Through Sunday, June 22
Can we get a woof woof! All the dog lovers in the house say, “howl.” As if we pet people didn’t already spend all of our disposable income on vet bills, grooming and really cute collars. Now we can shell out some cash for a musical about life with our furry friends, all played by slightly less furry humans. Sit. Stay. Buy tickets. Good boy.
Tickets: $10 - $40; Theatre Three Dallas; www.theatre3dallas.com
Gilligan’s Island: The Musical
Thursday, June 5 – Saturday, June 28
Lovie, darling, who else but millionaires and gay boys would pack a steamer trunk worth of clothes and money for a three-hour tour? Gilligan, the Skipper too and the rest of the gang (including that cute brainy professor) are back and basking under the tropical warmth of stage lights as they tangle with head hunters (and aliens?).
Tickets: $15 - $18; Rover Dramawerks; Cox Building Playhouse; www.roverdramawerks.com
Through Sunday, June 15
Hmm, is “drowsy” just an olde time way of saying “drunk”? If so, you were looking awfully “drowsy” last weekend when we saw you stumbling out of JR’s with your new friend. Maybe you should bring him to this musical within a comedy. We hear it’s the “bee’s knees,” the “cat’s pajamas,” the “drag queen’s shoehorn.” (Okay, that last one was a stretch, but we had exhausted our supply of vintage accolades).
Tickets: $18 - $84; Music Hall at Fair Park; www.dallassummermusicals.org
Sleazy Todd: The Demon Partner of Main Street
Wednesday, June 11 – Saturday, June 14
As if our legal system wasn’t entertaining enough on its own, here comes the judge (and the lawyer and the paralegal too) for this annual variety show presented by the Dallas Bar Association for the benefit of the Sarah T. Hughes Diversity Scholarship. And remember, the harder you laugh the less likely you are to be called for jury duty!
Tickets: $25; Bar None Production Company; Greer Garson Theatre, Southern Methodist University; www.barnoneshow.com
The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode
Friday, June 13 – Sunday, June 29
You take the good, you take the bad and then you take the camp as high as it will go for this all-male version of the TV classic. If this Uptown Players’ show holds up to the hysterical video trailer, this is certain to be the comedy event of the season. And, this time we REALLY get to find out what that tension between Joe and Blair was all about (amidst musical numbers, of course).
Tickets: $22 - $25; Uptown Players; The Rose Room (upstairs at S4); www.uptownplayers.org

The Trains at NorthPark Oh, no! Godzilla got into the Northpark train exhibit! But don't worry, the engineers will have it back up and running in time for your mall visit. And now, BEFORE the big holiday rush, is the best time to see them, before hundreds of drooling children take over the enclosure after Thanksgiving. More info
