Adam “Pacman” Jones returns to playing field

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has two hobbies: getting in trouble and harassing wide receivers. However, thus far in his short National Football League (NFL) career he has more arrests (eight) than interceptions (four).

Jones, who was suspended for the entire 2007 season after being involved in a fight and shooting at a Las Vegas strip club, was partially reinstated to the league by NFL Commissioner Roger Godell on Monday. This means Jones is allowed to participate in off season workouts, mini camps and exhibition games but there has been no ruling yet as to whether or not he will be available for the 2008 season.

On Tuesday Jones hit the practice field for the first time with his new teammates. Cowboys tight end Jason Witten said that it was obvious that Jones was happy and excited to be on the field again. Terrell Owens, although he was not present at the practice, has been quoted saying he looks forward to having heated battles with Jones on the practice field.

One Cowboy who might not be excited about Jones’ return is third string quarterback Richard Bartel. At the end of practice Bartel threw a pass that Jones snatched out of the air and returned 60 yards for a touchdown. Granted it was against the third string, Jones’ interception is an early indicator that team owner Jerry Jones knew what he was doing when he decided to bring in the controversial cornerback.

Jones’ teammates weren’t ready to roll out the red carpet for him after the play though. Owens along with other players were confident that Jones wouldn’t have gotten close to the end zone if the first team was on the field. Time will tell.
