Gay List Daily’s weekend (and beyond) events

0

This week’s events read like the beginning of a bad joke: four drag queens, a Michael Jackson Tribute Band and a seamstress for hookers walk into a bar… Sadly we don’t know the punch line, but this eclectic collection of outings is sure to deliver some very memorable stories for you to bust out at the water cooler. After all, someone has to bring the stories of the fabulous life back to the “little people” at the office. Are you up to the challenge?

Q Cinema – Fort Worth’s International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

Tonight through Saturday, June 7

No need to fear Sally Social Book, you’ve only missed the first few days of this queer movie extravaganza, but there’s still plenty of cinema de homo left. Some highlights include Big D girl Edna Jean Robinson’s Drip Tease (part of Our Shorts Are Showing 2) and the closing night Q Awards celebrating the festival’s 10th b-day with local funnyman Paul Williams.

Tickets: $8 - $40; Locations and times vary by event; Visit www.qcinema.org/festival.html for details.

The Kinsey Sicks: Wake the F@#k Up, America

Friday, June 6, 8 p.m.

They’re back! Everybody’s favorite four-part harmony drag queens are bringing their, um, shticks to the Lakewood Theater to raise money for the Turtle Creek Chorale. This time they’re the stars of a morning TV show, “putting the ‘ew’ in The View.” Expect perfect pitch paired with biting social satire.

Tickets: $25 - $50; Lakewood Theater; www.ticketmaster.com/artist/1217420

Who’s Bad – The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band

Saturday, June 7, 10:30 p.m.

Time to dust of that lone glittery glove and take some extra Glucosamine so you can break out your best Moon Walk (without breaking a hip). Who’s Bad, the Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band, is bringing all of the fun and none of the scary plastic surgery to the House of Blues for a night of Jacko nostalgia. Try as you may to resist, we guarantee you’ll be doing your best zombie neck roll the second “Thriller” starts.

Tickets: $15; House of Blues; www.ticketmaster.com/artist/1221577

Show Us Your Wii Wii

Wednesday, June 11, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.

Although it may sound like a pickup line from elementary school, this time said Wii Wii is of the Nintendo variety. Challengers are invited to bring their best virtual bowling skills and grand champions can win $50. Plus there are drink specials to ease the agony of defeat if your limp wrist gives out and costs you the game.

Intimate Apparel

Through Sunday, June 15

Long before Christian was making clothes for hot tranny messes on Project Runway, there was a seamstress making outfits for “working girls” that were far more fierce. Intimate Apparel follows the life of Esther, the seamstress, and her search for love at the beginning of the 20th century.

Tickets: $20 - $30; WaterTower Theatre, Addison Theatre Centre; www.watertowertheatre.org
