At their recent meeting on Tuesday, June 3, the Grand Prairie City Council approved a survey and some site plans (damn, I love alliteration):

Joe Pool Lake - cause there are funner ways to burn fossil fuels.

Maritime measurements

As summer is upon us, and general car-weariness has probably never been higher, people are eager to go boating on Joe Pool Lake.

The GP council therefore hired a firm, at the request of the folks at the aptly-named Joe Pool Lake Marina, to do the surveying needed to add additional boat slips to the marina.

The engineering firm of Espey Consultants was selected to perform the survey, which will cost $141,715 and include aerial reconnaissance, facility assessment, data analysis and eventual presentation to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (the bureaucracy that requires the survey in the first place).

Body shop, Rent-a-car, Bail bonds, oh my

The council also approved site plans for three upcoming businesses. First, an EDA Auto Body Shop to be built at 1915 Airport Street. The permit issued by the city allows for the shop and its paint booth. And then a plan for an Enterprise Rental-A-Car at 401 E. Palace Pkwy, followed by a bail bond office scheduled to be nestled into Suite A at 209 E. Main Street. Excellent.

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
