The seven suspected "Scarecrow bandits" who were arrested on Monday turn out to have crime-ridden pasts, with previous charges of murder, drugs, assault, credit card abuse, etc. -- "hardened criminals", as the DMN calls 'em. This story has a number of good details that reveal the thugs as pretty much arrogant and unrepentant, and some of their friends and family as seeming to make excuses and/or be clueless.
One suspect, the one with the most extensive criminal history, had the dumb gall to correct the judge during the proceedings; another said "Love y'all" to supporters in the courtroom. One suspect's father claims his son was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and another says his son has a good heart.

The Trains at NorthPark Oh, no! Godzilla got into the Northpark train exhibit! But don't worry, the engineers will have it back up and running in time for your mall visit. And now, BEFORE the big holiday rush, is the best time to see them, before hundreds of drooling children take over the enclosure after Thanksgiving. More info

'The seven suspected "Scarecrow bandits" who were arrested on Monday turn out to have crime-ridden pasts' - Uh, gee, ya think so?
While I generally don't disagree with the sentiment expressed, I think it is probably more appropriate to direct your contempt to the judicial system that lets murderers out on parole or post bail! Not towards moms & dads who, no matter how blatantly degenerate their child is, cannot help but want to rationalize and forgive their actions. It's natural to be incapable of being objective when it comes to your family. It doesn't make it right, but it's not a crime. It's just human.
What is criminal is a judicial system that fails the public time and time again, putting people in jail for petty sh*T and letting these guys out!

mjr092, i think you are totally right, and i think the DMN makes a strong argument for your point, as well, especially with this paragraph: "Yet when [Runnels] was charged with murder in Dallas, accused of shooting a longtime friend over money April 13, a magistrate set his bail at $100,000. He posted it and was released April 19, a few days before the Scarecrow Bandits' latest robbery."
bet they don't get low bail or short jail sentences this time around.
i thought it was a good story.
whenever i see parents making excuses, i always think, "oh well that's why the hoodlums turned out the way they did"

I tend to agree with your parent comment at the end of your post. It's hard enough when parents are paying attention and not "making excuses" to raise children as responsible, caring adults. Tho it is not always a guarantee of complete success, IMO, the alternative is pretty much a guarantee of something other than success on any positive level.
As a parent/grandparent, believe me, as I've seen this first hand.
