Week in View: No mo’ P.P.T. edition

The air, though warm, is breezy -- and outdoor festivals across north Texas this weekend celebrate the last gasp of springlike comfort until the State Fair. Early voting is underway for June 14 municipal runoff races, and you can search our databases for information on campaign donations to local candidates. We also have more free fun stuff to tantalize you, as well as this week's news of your community. Take a moment to check it out, won't you?

Metro: Park Cities commuters may have to pay a toll to drive on Mockingbird Lane. A Frisco man had his car stolen after advertising it for sale on craigslist. Public input on new names for Industrial Boulevard were an exercise in futility. The future of Reunion Arena is uncertain. Grits for Breakfast reports on possible funding cuts to the Dallas public defender's office.

Screen: The documentary about George W.'s adoption of the small Texas town of Crawford is set to premiere in Crawford this weekend (June 8), though George W. himself is not likely to show. New movies released on DVD as they do each and every week, but before busting into Best Buy you might want to ask yourself: Do you feel lucky, punk? And check the Movie tab on Friday for a quartet of film reviews, including coverage of Kung Fu Panda, You Don't Mess with the Zohan, The Foot Fist Way and The Children of Huang Shi.

Artsy: The Drowsy Chaperone is reviewed by both John Garcia and Mark-Brian Sonna. M-BS also saw Irving Community Theatre's Proof. North Dallas Gazette reviews Jubilee Theatre's Blue, while West and Clear checks out Fort Worth Opera's Of Mice and Men. In the Spotlight, Shawn talks to Rover Dramawerks' Artistic Director Carol M. Rice who is directing Gilligan's Island: The Musical.

Everyone's favorite first mate takes to the stage!

Listen up: Erin reports P.P.T. has called it quits. Kenny Goss and George Michael's Dallas foundation is rewarding talented young artists and musicians with scholarship money. Brenna reports on Matthew and the Arrogant Sea in advance of their Denton appearance Saturday, as well as the new release from local folk flutist Annie Benjamin.

Foodie: T.G. reports on new products featuring green tea. Asian Mint is expanding into Oak Lawn. Wolfgang Puck is taking over the top of Reunion Tower. North Texas Daily reviews Thai Ocha in Denton. And if you can't find that juicy tomato you're craving in the store, blame a salmonella scare.

Sports: Todd's Cupcheck wraps up the Stanley Cup Final. The Rangers provided plenty of fireworks in their latest homestand. Pacman is practicing with the Cowboys. Otherwise, a convicted steroids dealer who planned to ID his pro athlete clients for authorities was shot to death in his Plano home.

The Biz: ExxonMobil is doing their part to fight malaria. Tenet's Everything Must Go firesale continues. Barnett isn't the only Shale in town. Dallas also honored its ethical businesses.
