Best Bites: Dining out in Dallas-Fort Worth June 6

The security situation being what it is at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, you can't just go there and eat. You need to be flying somewhere. Which is too bad, since the restaurant scene out there is interesting, with a La Bodega Winery, Blue Mesa, and Reata Grill, and oh don't forget Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.

But here's two new places of interest:

1. Uno Due Go, described as a "mini" Uno Chicago Grill, opening in Terminal E, Columns 124-126. This is interesting because it represents a new venture into "quick-serve" by Boston-based Uno Chicago Grill, which plans to open at least 100 of these in the next few years, not just in airports but on college campuses and possibly even inside existing Uno Chicago Grills. This story says that the menu will include pizzas, sandwiches, self-serve soups, breakfast wraps and pizzas, and other breakfast items, some made to order, some made in advance.

2. Z Market, a combo convenience-store-deli-newsstand conceived by Fort Worth chef Tim Love, in partnership with HMSHost Corporation, located in Terminal B at Gate 33. The press release describes it as "fresh food fast," with Love's "delicious 'gourmet-to-go' menu of specially crafted to-go items intended for passengers to grab and eat in the terminal or on the plane." It also says it's the "first" airport location for this concept. Which tells me there will be more.

Bits and pieces

Moving in to the space on Lemmon Avenue next-door to Gloria's that used to be 33 Degrees, Hamburger Mary, and a bunch of other places is a branch of Genghis Grill-The Mongolian Stir Fry ... meanwhile, Maya Mexican Kitchen in Rowlett has lost its chef, Kent Lemmons, and is no longer open for lunch hours.
