— Every year, Genesis Women’s Shelter presents the Jane Doe Award to recognize and celebrate an individual or corporation’s extraordinary efforts made on behalf of the battered women and children who must remain nameless and faceless as they escape the violence they have known in their homes. The Jane Doe Award was given to Mary Kay Inc. the evening of May 8, a day before the annual Genesis Mother’s Day Luncheon.

This year, Genesis Women’s Shelter proudly recognizes Mary Kay Inc. with the 2008 Jane Doe Award. Through Mary Kay, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation and the efforts of Mary Kay’s independent sales force, the Company has been able to effectively make a difference in the fight against domestic violence, one survivor at a time. The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation was founded in 1996 to fund research of cancers affecting women, and in 2000, expanded its mission to include the prevention of violence against women. Since that time, the Foundation has awarded more than $14 million to domestic violence initiatives across the country including the “Love is Respect” program, a telephone helpline and website aimed at informing teens about domestic violence; “Survivors Technology,” a groundbreaking interactive CD-ROM training tool that Mary Kay sent to every shelter in the nation to help inform women about perpetrators who use technology to terrorize victims; and for the last seven years, the Foundation has awarded grants to hundreds of women’s shelters in all 50 states.

Jan Langbein, executive director of Genesis Women’s Shelter said, “It is with great honor that we present this award to Mary Kay. Mary Kay is a recognized leader in the fight to end domestic violence. Through education, training and support programs, Mary Kay is constantly working to empower women to achieve better lives for themselves and their families.”

“My grandmother, Mary Kay Ash, was known as an innovative business leader with a big heart,” said Ryan Rogers, Mary Kay Inc. vice president of strategic initiatives and director of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. “Her mission was always to enrich women’s lives, and she dedicated herself to improving the quality of life for women around the world. In her honor, we are proud to accept the 2008 Jane Doe Award for Mary Kay’s efforts in the fight against domestic violence.”

Past recipients include First Lady Laura Bush, Academy Award Winner Sarah Buel, Dallas County Assistant District Attorney Cindy Dyer, Dallas Police Department, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, Junior League of Dallas, and Crystal Charity Ball.

At the 15th annual Genesis Mother’s Day Luncheon on May 9, James A. Baker, III, 61st U.S. Secretary of State, discussed leadership. Lynn McBee was the luncheon chairman, and Nancy C. Rogers was the honorary chairman. The luncheon raised more than $680,000.
