Strong winds cause power outages throughout North Texas
DALLAS Nearly 20,000 residents lost power on Thursday after strong winds swept through North Dallas. As of Friday at 11 a.m., 6,000 homes and businesses throughout the area are still experiencing outages.
“We’re experiencing high winds and the number of homes and businesses without power is constantly fluctuating,” said Oncor/TXU spokesperson Carol Peters. “What’s happening is that the wind is causing sporadic outages in the DFW area and in our system. As soon as we restore some power [in one place], another place goes out.”
TXU hopes to restore all power by midway through the weekend. By then, the winds are expected to settle at 15-20 mph.
“We are certainly making progress and once we’re out of the high wind advisory, it’ll be much easier to complete total restoration,” Peters said.
