— The Texas Rangers once again couldn't get anything over the surprisingly good Tampa Bay Rays Friday night, losing 12-4 at Rangers Ballpark. The loss dropped the perpetually-mediocre Rangers back below .500, to 31-32 on the season.

The Rangers had scored eight or more runs in their past six games, but were mowed down unceremoniously by Rays starter Scott Kazmir. Kazmir won his sixth straight decision, and has a that'-can't-last-all-season ERA of 1.40.

Rangers starter Vicente Padilla pitched well, but not well enough in his first start since coming back from bereavement leave. Padilla pitched six innings and gave up just three runs and five hits, but took credit for the loss. Padilla had won a career-high seven straight decisions prior to Friday.

A handful of Rangers had decent days at the plate, but overall the offense seemed to miss offensive catalyst Michael Young, who missed the game due to a hand injury. Young's 21 game hitting streak remained intact.

Milton Bradley continued his tear, and although he did not extend his home run hitting streak Bradley did manage to hit a double and score half the Rangers runs. Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, as he continues to fight for a regular spot in the outfield. David Murphy also had a good game, collecting a pair of hits and scoring a run.
