UPDATED: Water main break Saturday required hundreds of Burleson residents to boil tap water

The boil water order has been lifted and affected residents have been notified via the city's emergency messaging system.

— A construction crew cut a major water main shortly after 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the intersection of Burleson Boulevard and Memorial Plaza. City of Burleson public works employees responded and repaired the line. However, water pressure dropped below minimum standards. Therefore, a boil order has been issued.

City of Burleson water customers within the affected area will have to purchase water for drinking, ice making, and cooking, or, boil water for a minimum of two minutes. The water is safe for showering.

A map showing the affected area is available on the City of Burleson web site at www.burlesontx.com. A total of 723 residences and 117 businesses are in the affected area. The affected area spans Centre Street on the north; Fox Lane on the east; CR 530B on the south; and, I-35W on the west. It also includes Hidden Creek Estates, Phase 1, which is all the homes on Hidden Ridge Drive north to Hidden Creek Parkway. Only City of Burleson water customers are affected.

Drinking water for residences and businesses affected by the City of Burleson's boil water notification was available starting at 8 p.m. Saturday on the campus of Bransom Elementary. The campus is located at 820 S. Hurst Rd. Residents and business owners in the affected area are asked to bring their own containers for water to Bransom Elementary.

Residences and businesses in the affected area have been contacted via the City's Connect-CTY emergency phone notification system.

UPDATE: Water samples have been taken in the area of Burleson affected by the boil water order and forwarded to a testing laboratory. The tests take a minimum of 18 hours to complete. At that time, if the tests show the water is safe to ingest, the boil order will be lifted.

UPDATEX2: The boil water order has been rescinded and affected residents have been notified via Connect-CTY.

Pavel Lishin, says:

I thought that as soon as water hit boil, all organisms were eliminated. Or was the purpose something else?

Chris Olson, says:

I think they are eliminated at boil, or shortly after, but by boiling longer, you sort of deep fry them for that added flavor.
