Fort Worth mayor Mike Moncrief remembers 100-year-old school teacher
Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief and longtime school teacher Hazel Harvey Peace, who passed away at 100.
FORT WORTH After learning of the passing of Ms. Hazel Harvey Peace, a long-time Fort Worth educator, mentor and community leader, Mayor Mike Moncrief released the following statement:
“We are all deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Hazel Harvey Peace—a woman who was small in stature but whose passion for children and love of this city made her larger than life.
“Ms. Peace—as everyone called her out of respect—was an inspiration. She was an advocate for all things good. She was, without a doubt, one of the most influential women in our city’s history. Ms. Peace leaves behind a wake of young lives positively touched, moved or impacted by her example.
“This little lady—whom I often affectionately referred to as ‘my girlfriend’—was a personal mentor to me. From time to time, I’d ask her about her thoughts on an issue in our city, in our state or in our communities. Her advice was always invaluable, and I will take it with me for the rest of my life.
“Rosie and I respected, loved and adored Ms. Peace and all that she stood for. Although her legacy will live on, her absence will be felt by the entire Fort Worth family.”
