DALLAS President George W. Bush appointed Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert to the President’s Commission on White House Fellows.
Mayor Leppert, who was once a White House Fellow, will be one of 34 commission members.
“Being a White House Fellow was an incredible experience that opened up a new world to me,” said Mayor Leppert. “So when I had the opportunity to help other men and women wanting to be Fellows, I jumped at the chance.”
In 1984, Mr. Leppert was appointed by President Reagan as a White House Fellow. He was assigned both to the Department of the Treasury and the White House staff. In those roles, he focused primarily on banking, finance and international trade issues. As a Fellow, and in these assignments, he traveled throughout Europe and the Eastern Bloc countries of the Soviet Union, Poland and Hungary.
Now as a commission member, Mayor Leppert’s primary task will be interviewing regional finalists in what is considered a rigorous competition. The commission then make recommendations to the President on who to appoint as White House Fellows.
“It certainly is an honor to be selected by President Bush to play a role on this commission, and help choose future White House Fellows,” said Leppert

I'd like to know why Bush is still allowed to touch things. I suppose appointing Fellows but with close supervision was deemed safe. What can go wrong?
