St. Bernard offers variety of summer styles, winter equipment

PLANO — St. Bernard Sports is a one-stop place for year-round sportswear. This local store carries everything from ski and snowboard equipment to an array of women’s preppy and athletic clothing.

St. Bernard's Kayla Tatum of the Shops at Legacy location said they differ from the typical luxury sporting goods store. A well-informed athletic staff in the field sets the store apart from others of its type.

"Our staff is unique,” Kayla said, referring to three out of the four stores being in North Texas. “We hire a lot based on experience in the different fields so the staff that works here has a great knowledge of what we sell.”

The summer selection includes dresses, swimsuits, skirts, and shorts for women plus board shorts, button downs, and polos for men. They also carry virtually every type of shoe, ranging from flip flops and chic sandals to hiking boots and cold weather footwear.

Speaking of cold weather: already dreaming up that winter vacation on the slopes? Also available online, the store carries skis and snowboards from Volkl, Salomon, K2, and Rossignol. Prices range from $300-$500 for skis and $400-$700 for snowboards. While you’re there, pick up the cold weather attire and accessories you’ll need to go along with your new equipment.

However, buying all this pricey equipment for the slopes means you actually have to go somewhere remotely chilly. Traveling to the mountains in west Texas probably isn't going to suffice. As stated on the FAQs section of their website, St. Bernard recognizes that skiing in Texas isn't actually possible. The clientele you'll find here isn't one to scrimp on tickets to the snowy and posh Aspen, Colorado.

For those who don't feel like blowing hundreds of dollars on full-priced ski attire, we might just be able to sidle over to the sale rack for some basic clothing, or visit the outlet location. Brands include Lilly Pulitzer, The North Face, Patagonia, Quicksilver, Lacoste, Reef, Bernardo, Arc'Teryx, Columbia, Volcom, and many more.

Other stores are located at Inwood Village Shopping Center and the outlet store is located off of I-35 between Mockingbird & Inwood Road. In case you're on the road this summer, there's even one located in Austin.
