We don’t know about you, but there’s nothing sexy to us about sweating in the hot Texas sun. Unless the sweating is being done by an Abercrombie & Fitch model in our backyard pool feeding us Ding-Dongs and Sunny D (grapes are so cliché). But if we must venture outdoors, it’s nice to have some sort of distraction. Even if it’s not a guy in a square-cut. Fortunately, there are some air-conditioned options as well to help you keep your cool.

The Tin Man’s A Queen!: Friday Night Films with AFI Dallas: The Wizard of Oz

Friday, June 13, 9:00 p.m.

Head down the yellow-brick whatever to greet Dorothy behind the statue of the naked chick and that weird curvy thing that looks like a flying monkey made it. Yes, it’s time for movie night at the Nasher Sculpture Center with the granddaddy of all gay flicks, The Wizard of Oz. So put on your sparkly red shoes from Payless to get in the cheap spirit, because this first night of the season is free, free, free!

Free Admission; Lawn chairs and coolers not allowed, but food is available for purchase; Nasher Sculpture Center; www.summeratthenasher.org/fridayfilms.html

Sing Out, Sister!: Voice of Pride

Tonight through August 17

David Cook may be your American Idol, but nobody with that haircut could possibly be gay, so root for a singer of the GLBT persuasion in this annual singing competition that also doubles as a good tour of gay bars in town. This next week features preliminary rounds at Buddies II, The Revenge, Tin Room, Dallas Eagle and JR’s. Best of all, it’s not too late to enter for your chance at local fame, and $5,000 in fortune, plus other fabulous prizes.

The Great Artdoors: Dallas City Arts Celebration

Friday, June 13 - Sunday, June 15

Pull out your umbrella hats. It’s time to hit the streets for this open-air festival featuring dance, music, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and more. It’s a great way to explore the “new” downtown and put that SPF-300 to the test.

Free Admission; Downtown Dallas (visit website for exact locations); www.dallascityarts.com

Dressed To The K-9s: Top Hat and Tails

Saturday, June 14, 6:30 – 11:00 p.m.

Are you in clinical depression after the finale of Dancing with the Stars? Then buck up as Paws in the City presents its own version, sort of a Dancing with the What’s-Her-Name-from-the-News. All the proceeds go to benefit the wonderful work of the pet rescue organization, so watching former mayor Ron Kirk, TV personality Macie Jepson and billionaire Mark Cuban…'sssss brother, Brian, will be worth it. The night features a seated dinner, auction and cocktails in addition to the dance competition and a plethora of who’s that? moments.

Tickets: $100; The Garden Court at the Hotel Intercontinental; www.tophatandtails.org

Practice Your Pageant Wave: Miss LifeWalk 2008 Pageant

Sunday, June 15 8:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Even more popular than the Jerry’s Kids Hot Ass Contest, this entertaining show promises plenty of talent and glamour as the current Royalty is selected for the annual charity event. Contestants can be biological “misses” or female impersonators, so it’s anyone’s game.

Free Admission; Round Up Saloon; www.lifewalk.org
