Free bus rides on tap for Fort Worth, Richland Hills residents
Residents of Fort Worth and Richland Hills, Thursday is your lucky day: The T will offer free bus rides all day long as part of the third annual Dump the Pump Day. Notice that said "bus rides" -- Trinity Railway Express users will still have to pony up the dough.
Hmm, seems like a good idea to get people more interested in public transportation during these hard times. Wonder why another area mass transit organization isn't offering the same thing?

Robert Brooks, says:
Why isn't DART offering a free fare day? Probably because the last time DART did that was during the ill-fated Dallas Cowboys Superbowl parade, several years ago. Rightly or wrongly, many blamed the free transportation for the violent fiasco that followed. If I recall correctly, DART said they'd never do that again.

I wasn't really in the habit of reading the news back then - do you have a link to the story? I'm too lazy to Google for it.

So DART's theory was that if rides weren't free, teenagers couldn't cough up $3 to throw themselves a riot?
