McKinney developer asks for 300 grand to promote golf tournament

— Developer David Craig has asked the McKinney City Council for $300,000 to better promote the upcoming Nationwide Tour golf championship, which will be played at Craig's TPC Craig Ranch.

Council member Bill Cox, who appears to support the request, says the public funds would go toward ads on The Golf Channel during the tournament that would give McKinney a lot of exposure to a national audience. But those opposed to the request suggest it is tantamount to a handout to Craig, who already receives several tax and other benefits from the city for his development.

Gotta side with the opposed on this one. If McKinney's looking to get some publicity, methinks they should set the ads up themselves instead of forking money over to Mr. Craig.

It is wonderful to see the "money train" has finally slowed down or come to a common sense hault with two new members on the city council, and a new city manager. Starting with the MPAC court house (A huge loser to the tax payers of McKinney) through a quarter of a million dollars for changing a logo for the city, and finally a 3.5 million dollar fire station; to a hundred thousand dollars in give away money for a lake belonging to a private individual, our tax money has been treated like butt-wiping paper. We can all tip our hats to our previous, thank God, finally gone City Manager, Larry Robinson for this wasteful spending of our tax money, and prior liberal members of our city council.
