Central staff changes at Dallas ISD

Dallas Independent School District Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa named Arnold Viramontes, current Chief Transformation Officer, as Acting Chief of Staff.

DALLAS — Dallas Independent School District Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa named Arnold Viramontes, current Chief Transformation Officer, as Acting Chief of Staff.

Viramontes’ selection is contingent upon the signing of a contract, expected by the end of June, by current Chief of Staff Steve Flores to serve as the Superintendent of the Harlingen Independent School District located in the Rio Grande Valley.

“Arnold Viramontes’ experience within the district, as well as his experience in the corporate world and as the head of the state’s Telecommunications Infrastructure Board, makes him uniquely qualified for the position of chief of staff,” said Hinojosa. “At the same time, we will miss the energy and passion with which Steve Flores approached his role. We wish him the very best in his job as superintendent in Harlingen.”

Viramontes will continue to provide leadership to the district’s Transformation Office, which was established to monitor progress of the comprehensive Dallas Achieves! initiative. His new assignment will combine the Chief of Staff and the Chief Transformation Officer positions. The fusion of these two posts is part of the cost savings measures being implemented throughout the district. Former Area Superintendent James Ponce will step into an administrative role to oversee the day-to-day functions of the Transformation office and will report directly to Viramontes.

Also, Hector Flores, recruiter in Human Development, has been named director of Intergovernmental Relations and will provide outreach for the district at both the national and international level. Flores is the former national president of the League of United Latino American Citizens (LULAC). In addition, Chuck Chernosky, former executive director for School Support in the Transformation Management Office, will serve as executive director for School and Leadership Support.
