FC Dallas dropped a disappointing loss on the road to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening. Marked as the first game for new head coach Schellas Hyndman, the team seemed unable to break free from this season's funk.

It gives you wings, which, ironically, are an illegal addition to a professional soccer kit.

FCD goalkeeper Dario Sala performed solidly on the evening, denying early shots from a penetrating New York offense. But a bad decision and poor defending in the 16th minute would cost Dallas their game-losing goal. Sinisa Ubiparipovic was awarded a corner kick after Sala deflected the long-named forward's volley. As Sala stepped off his goal line to attack the cross, he was beat overhead. Kevin Goldthwaite broke free of FCD defender Blake Wagner to head the ball home.

FCD would be plagued all game by unnecessary turnovers in the middle of the field. Despite injuries to a couple of key players, including Juan Pablo Angel, and Jozy Altidore's transfer to Villareal, the New York side was able to hold their own against Dallas, creating a number of opportunities on net, whilst denying Dallas'.

As the game progressed, both teams opened the field up a bit, which, as the Fox Soccer Channel announcer pointed out, plays to the Hoops' strengths. In the end, however, Dallas was hardly able to break into Jon Conway's penalty box, much less challenge him with many well-placed, or even misplaced, shots.

After 90 minutes of "ugh," "why'd you pass it there?" and "here we go, here we go... ahh, dammit" the match concluded at 1-0 at Giants Stadium. Today's game brought Dallas' record to 4-6-4 on the season, 1-4-2 on the road.

Alright, Schellas, start cracking that characteristic whip of yours and lets turn this season around. Please. In the name of all that is holy.

NOTES:

FC Dallas is now 4-6-4, 16 pts on the season. The team is 1-4-2 on the road.

This was the first game under new head coach Schellas Hyndman. Dallas coaches are now 3-2-1 in their first game.

Schellas becomes the 60th head / interim coach in MLS history. In their first MLS games, coaches are a combined 27-22-11.

FCD is now 15-15-2 all-time versus New York, including 8-8-1 at Giants Stadium. The teams split the season series, each claiming a shutout at home.

Dallas is now 2-3-0 versus teams in the East this year.

This is only the third time this year that Dallas has been held without a goal.

The team played with a 4-4-2 formation for the first time this season.

FCD was without the services of Adrian Serioux (Canada), and Drew Moor and Brek Shea (USA), who are with their respective Men’s National Teams for World Cup Qualifiers.

Duilio Davino and Cooper have started all 14 games this season.

Today’s attendance was 16,427.

FC Dallas will play the Houston Dynamo on Thursday, June 26 at Robertson Stadium on ESPN2, followed by a friendly versus Chivas Guadalajara on Sunday, June 29 at Pizza Hut Park.

Schellas Hyndman on the game: “The situation is we've only had a couple days of training with them to try to instill some ideas. It takes time to get those ideas across but I'm really proud of them for trying to implement these ideas and trying their hardest...."I thought that they (NY) applied a lot of pressure the whole game, so we did well to only allow one goal. We didn't have enough scoring chances. I think Dominic (Oduro) had one and Andre (Rocha) had one where he broke away and hit the keeper with it. We didn't get enough chances and that's something we have to work on."
