Dallas considers adding wind turbines to the Trinity River Project

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (11)

Dallas City Hall is discussing this week whether or not to add wind turbines along the Trinity parkway median. Supporters say it will provide half the electricity for the street lights and it's "green." People against the turbines are not only concerned that the turbines will become major eyesores, but are also wondering where the money will come from. Apparently windmills weren't in the original budget plan.

I like the idea and do not see it as an eyesore but rather as an attraction.

People against the turbines are being shortsighted or should just stay in the suburbs. Things look nice and sterile there.

Ya know, this whole "trinity project" is over budget anyways, they lied to us about how much it'll cost to begin with. Dallasites of course, being the dumb animals they area, believed the city council and not angela hunt on the whole vote trinity issue.

That being said, I dont have a problem with setting up wind turbines for power purposes. Just dont cheap out on it like they already have on the Santiago Calatrava-designed bridge that hasnt even been built yet.

and then let's put in some panda bears but the panda bears are going to be made out of cotton candy and you can't leave cotton candy out in the rain so we have to make some cotton candy panda bear raincoats and those should come from Italy because that's where they teach dogs how to smoke

DC - come clean. You're a Councilman publishing under an assumed name, because otherwise, you soon could be.

Yeah, fight non sequitur with non sequitur

wow - that's just surreal.

I can't help but think that a solar panel on each light couldn't do the same-- cheaper

Clay - you've got a point, but why not do both?

A few years ago we were on an island in the Mediteranean and the cap of the island had a windmill farm on it. It was so far from being an eyesore that it actually had a calming effect. Done correctly they're very tall and quiet and proud looking. Also, when you consider that Dallas is windier than Chicago it seems foolhardy NOT to take advantage of an infinitely renewable resource.

This same island also had solar panels on almost every (200+ year old roof) - there's no reason that we can't add solar panels to street lights, the tops of all of the buildings downtown, and even perched at the top of the windmills.

The resulting power would power our civic buildings, as well as our residential and mixed use buildings, in addition to the existing plan.

The council (undercover or not) needs to be far more long-sighted than they have been.

Windmills is the first time I've seen it.

Now if we could just get them to replace the real eye sore- yet another soon-to-be-congested highway - with a rail line.

As long as they're kept maintained (painted, cleaned, etc.) I don't see them as an eyesore either. Wind and sun are two things we do have in abundance in north Texas.

I'd sure rather have a wind turbine in the scenery than another gas well.

You'd think with all the green talk floating about, Dallas would be happy to accept the good PR for including a wind farm in their RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE SHYSTER PROJECT.

RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE SHYSTER PROJECT BLVD.

Now why wasn't THAT a choice in the survey?

(And Alex, I'm warming to the Chavez name), but how many tree-huggers is Dallas famous for versus Latino statesmen/women? Ya gotta laugh a little, right?

Apparently Angela Hunt isn't feeling the turbines.

Wonder how well lobbying is going to extend green tax credits for renewable electricity? If extended, how much would that save NTTA in the overall deal?

Or better yet-- since they love tolls so much-- just put coin operated meters on all the lights like old style London flats.
