— The Week of June 22-28 has been declared National Mosquito Control Awareness week by the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA), an international public health organization dedicated safe, environmentally sound mosquito control programs.

During this week, the City of McKinney will have brochures available at city offices that explain the importance of mosquito control and various tips for homeowners about eliminating mosquito egg-laying sites around their homes and neighborhoods.

As part of the public education and awareness week, the City would like to remind individuals to follow the 3 Ds to defend against mosquitoes: Dress in long clothing, drain standing water, and wear deet or other approved insect repellents.

McKinney's mosquito control program consists of surveillance, source reduction, larvaciding (eliminating mosquito larvae), adulticiding (spraying for adult mosquitoes) and public education.

If you would like additional mosquito control information, please stop by City Hall the week of June 22-28 or visit the Web site. Residents may also use the mosquito control hotline at 972-547-7473 to report any standing water issues or mosquito concerns.
