The teams were tied at 3-all entering the top of the eighth, when pinch hitter Frank Catalanatto singled in Brandon Boggs to make it 4-3. Young catcher Jerrod Saltalamacchia was the next batter, and his single to center field scored Marlon Byrd from second to ice the game.

Rangers starter Vicente Padilla had another strong outing, pitching seven innings and giving up just three runs and five hits. Padilla walked two and struck out five en route to posting his 10th victory of the season. Padilla was relieved by Eddie Guardado in the eighth and C.J. Wilson, who pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save of the year.

Ian Kinsler hit his third home run in five games, a solo shot in the sixth to put Texas up 2-0. Brandon Boggs also had a solo home run, in the fourth inning, as well as a stolen base.
