Voters in Oak Point’s runoff election choose Cameron as council woman
OAK POINT Oak Point Colleen Cameron and Leslie Maynard fought a hard fight in the runoff election for at-large council member. Cameron won, possibly because of a last ditch effort wherein she stationed herself outside city hall Saturday to thank voters for turning out. Maynard was out of town.
The candidates tied with 188 votes each in the May 10 election when only 22.6 percent of Oak Point’s 1,702 registered voters voted. About 87 percent returned to vote in the runoff, when Cameron won by 29 votes.
