Coppell City Council talks horse-drawn carriages, skateboards and parades
The Coppell City Council will meet on Tues. evening, June 24 in regular session to discuss a diversity of issues facing the city. The meeting will convene at Town Center (255 Parkway Blvd.).
They'll begin by conferring in executive session following the 5:30 p.m. call to order. When the regular session commences (around 7:00 p.m.), the topic of horse-drawn carriage permitting will rear its hoary head, including a discussion of permit fees. (Hey, it's all about collecting the money, right? And serving the public, of course; in this case serving them horse apples.)
There will also be reports from Mayor Doug Stover on forthcoming Independence Day events, including the July 3 fireworks at Andy Brown East Park and the July 4 parade beginning at 10 a.m. at Samuel and Parkway.
In the public hearing part of the proceedings, council folk will consider approval of an ordinance providing for use of roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, coasters, scooters "and similar devices" on city owned property; and, conversely, the prohibition of the use of same on certain city facilities.
Other agenda items of note:
* Discussion regarding the Lighted Holiday Parade (Dec. 6)
* The Annual State of the Court address presented by the Hon. Marian Moseley (Coppell Municipal Judge)
* Consent to a change order relating to the construction contract for the Grapevine Springs Community Center providing for the addition of a parking lot
* Provision calling for an increase in the number of days an animal shall be held before adoption, from three to five
* City Manager's report, including goals and objectives for fiscal year '08
* Committee reports
If the mayor's report on the fireworks event includes a demonstration of star shells, I might have to figure a way to attend this one.
