Lyric Stage has earned a great place in the DFW theatre scene not only because of their high quality productions, but because they are the only locally-produced, professional musical theater company in Dallas County. Even though they only perform four shows, the theater company has a buzz-worthy year ahead of them including a Texas premiere. Season subscriptions range from $85-135 and a Season Ticket Order Form is available for download.
Shows will be presented at the Irving Arts Center either in Carpenter Performance Hall or Dupree Theater. Here is the lineup:
- West Side Story from September 5 - 14, 2008. Book by Arthur Laurents, Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Music by Leonard Bernstein. The world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theatre’s finest accomplishments. The classic Bernstein score includes “Somewhere,” “Tonight” and “Maria.” Directed by Grover Dale and featuring a full orchestra and the original Jerome Robbins choreography. In the Carpenter Performance Hall.
- Fiorello! from October 10 - 25, 2008. Book by George Abbott and Jerome Weidman, Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, Music by Jerry Bock. Fiorello! tells the story of the rise to power of New York’s Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. In a time when the crooked political machine known as “Tammany Hall” was up to its ears in corruption, it took this small, honest man to break their stranglehold on New York City politics. Fiorello! is a melodic masterpiece whose take on corruption in government is as timely today as when it was written. In Dupree Theater.
- An Evening with Donna McKechnie on January 30 & 31, 2009. The Tony Award-winning star of A Chorus Line brings her one woman show to Lyric Stage for 2 powerhouse performances. After making her Broadway debut in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Donna went on to star in Promises, Promises, Company, On The Town and won the Best Actress Tony Award for her portrayal of Cassie in A Chorus Line. In Carpenter Performance Hall.
- As Thousands Cheer from April 24 - May 9, 2009. Sketches by Moss Hart, Music by Irving Berlin. The Depression era version of Saturday Night Live and Politically Incorrect. Moss Hart's sketches are sharp, witty and hilarious and Irving Berlin's songs range from wry to satiric to poignant. The score includes the Irving Berlin hits “Heat Wave,” “Easter Parade” and “Supper Time.” Texas premiere.
- The King and I from June 19 - 28, 2009. Music by Richard Rodgers, Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Based on Anna And The King Of Siam by Margaret Landon. The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic as it was originally produced on Broadway. Lyric Stage’s production will feature the newly restored original Robert Russell Bennett orchestrations played by a full orchestra. In Carpenter Performance Hall.
