UPDATE: The Theater Fire’s Matter and Light NOT available at shows in July

UPDATE: It looks like we, in conjunction with the band's blog, have jumped the gun a bit. While it is correct that The Theater Fire will be on tour in July, their latest album will not be available at shows in July. But soon, young padwan, soon. Remain patient. When we hear details we will pass them along.

Fort Worth's The Theater Fire are anticipating the release of their third full-length album, Matter and Light. The album will be available at shows starting in mid-July, about the same time TTF flies off to Athens, Brooklyn, St. Louis, and Chicago for the first leg of their mini-tour.

According to the band's site, the album contains, "14 tracks - One covered and one exposed, three variations on a theme, and nine more precious nuggets dug from the red Texas clay with a spelunker's spoon."

Preview some of the tracks from Matter and Light to the right. They're out of sight... a'ight.

I don't normally leave comments on websites; who really cares? But I'm wondering about the point of the above "Update." To make sure people didn't think they could get their hands on a copy of the new record at July shows? There weren't any July shows. That was on the band's website as well. Posted on July 8 "The boys have decided to postpone their summer tour until fall"; that was a mere five days after the above "update." I noticed a while back you also jumped the gun on declaring this Friday's show the band's CD release show. And the new record is not on Undeniable. Where do you get your information? I bet if you e-mailed someone in the band, you wouldn't need a fact checker (that's something credible journalists typically use). But what prompted this comment is your attempt to blame your bad information on the band. I don't really think you need their help. You're doing just fine on your own.

orvenagal, I have to defend Erin here. It looks to me like some misinformation was being put out by the band itself. Yes, the tour tab of their website indicates that there weren't any July shows (although that doesn't mean that July listings never existed), but a blog post on their site and on their MySpace page clearly states that "The new CD "Matter And Light" will be available at live shows starting in July."

There also appears to still be misinformation on the band's site, if what you say is true. Undeniable Records is still listed as their label under "Contact." As you indicated, their 7/08 post (which means July 2008, not July 8th, BTW -- they also have posts dated 6/08, 4/08, etc.) says they will postpone their summer tour until the fall, yet they still list two shows this weekend. Is it fall already?

Not saying Erin's infallible, but her info doesn't appear to be as bad as you make it out to be.

My question was in reference to the purpose of the "update". I don't see the answer in your response. And please understand, despite the response below, this is in no way directed at Erin, but at this site as a whole. Really? You put "news" in the title?

As a staff member, of course I expect you to defend the site's misinformation. My point is: this site seems to report bits and pieces of information you happen upon, and then blame the bands? That's not something I've seen before, so I hope you pardon my confusion.

Funny how you could report that the record is not available at non-existent July shows, but you missed the tour being postponed. By the way, the band is from Fort Worth (you can get that information from their website and MySpace page as well); local shows (like the ones this weekend in Dallas and Denton) aren't typically referred to as "tour dates" in response to your "is it fall yet" question. Touring is typically when a band plays more than one show in a row, or perhaps a block of shows, outside of the metroplex; hence the distinction between local and touring acts. If you need help with any more of these terms, please feel free to e-mail me.

Your comment "although that doesn't mean that July listings never existed" can be easily verified. Guess how? The same way any other site that wanted to know would find out. (Again, you can e-mail me if you need help with this one). Furthermore, if the record has not been released, and I'm assuming you did not receive a copy, how can you post what label it is on? Because the previous record was on Undeniable you assumed that the next one will be. Isn't that just a bit lazy? Especially when there's that reliable old "contact" button available on most websites. Oh, and I'm sure there's some way on MySpace to contact them. Let me just think about it for a minute.

I can't figure out the purpose of this site. For my part, I didn't realize this site simply reprinted information gleaned periodically from other sites. I was under the impression there was some original content here.

This one's free: Lee Harvey's is a bar in Dallas. Google it; you seem to know how. See you tonight.

orvenagal, I invite you to take a look around the site before you blanket us with a statement that we just reprint "information gleaned periodically from other sites." I won't deny that some of what we do involves this -- it's a simple and fun way to let our users know what's going on around the DFW metroplex without them having to go to multiple websites.

We have talented writers on our staff that do original reporting on a day in, day out basis -- <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/contributor/catherine-cuellar/">Catherine Cuellar</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/teresa-gubbins/">Teresa Gubbins</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/erin-rice/">the aforementioned Erin Rice</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/john-p-meyer/">John P. Meyer</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/todd-maternowski/">Todd Maternowski</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/chad-jones/">Chad Jones</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/laura-seewoester/">Laura Seewoester</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/shaun-parikh/">Shawn Parikh</a>, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/staff/minnie-payne/">Minnie Payne</a>, and <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/contributor/alex-bentley/">myself</a>.

And trust me, <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2008/feb/14/pegasus-news-buys-exclusive-naming-rights-lee-harv/">we're familiar with Lee Harvey's</a>. If you stick around a while, I think you'll find that our website is one of the most, if not <em>the</em> most, local band-friendly sites you'll find in DFW. I hope you can forgive Erin for trying to let people know about the happenings of a local band. We always welcome our users to tell us when we've got something wrong -- most of them tend to be a bit nicer about it, though.

Scott Miller, says:

I googled it.

Pegasus News came up third, after the venues own site- which was first and second.

I also googled the theater fire, Pegasus' TTF band page was the first result on the second page.
