FLOWER MOUND Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre’s announced today that it will present the world premiere of Project Youth, a musical drama produced in conjunction with FMPAT’s youth educational programs. Stephanie Riggs, FMPAT’s associate producer and educational program director wrote the original script and composers Adam C. Wright and Jeff Kinman wrote the music.
"This show is unique because it allows youth performers the chance to create their own original roles in a world premier production," said Ms. Riggs. "The show is on the regular season, but the cast is comprised of very talented youth ages 5 - 18, that were selected from an extensive audition process."
In the drama, the year is 2110, the earth is on the brink of destruction and almost all plant life has been decimated. The environment has deteriorated so that human life is close to extinction. Those that remain have fled to the remnants of the rain forests, or to the higher elevations of the mountains. With all desalinization plants destroyed, most of the population has divided into two groups that are at war over what little fresh water is left.
A band of men and women working in secret have built a safe haven known as The Project for their children. The hidden sanctuary is carved into the side of a remote, high mountain where the children have been deposited with just enough supplies to hopefully outlast the catastrophe. But can the children work together and find the secret mission that their parents have devised for them in order to save themselves and the planet? Is there hope for a brighter tomorrow, a new beginning?
In light of the production’s themes and in support of the city of Flower Mound, which has earned the award of Tree City USA due to the policies the city promotes in the planting of trees, FMPAT will donate the profits from the sale of Project Youth gear from to the Flower Mound Memorial Tree program, additionally patrons may choose to add a donation to the Memorial Tree Fund when they purchase tickets.
