Coppell's Andrew Brown Park will be "ground zero" for the traditional July 3rd fireworks display put on by the city.

It seems odd to talk about July 3rd in reference to traditional fireworks displays, but it's becoming quite trendy for communities to set off their big displays on that date in preference to the 4th, for some reason. (One-upmanship? Fear of being overshadowed - or would that be overblown? - by their bigger city neighbors?)

Ground Zero for fireworks origination is indicated by the ominous red dot. Don't worry, the yellow circle does NOT indicate blast radius, but rather the closed-to-public fallout area where spent shells will fall after bursting colorfully in the air. (We trust.)

In any case, starting at 7 p.m. (and prior to the colorful explosions lighting up the night sky) there will be food vendors aplenty peddling such goodies as turkey legs, sno cones, funnel cakes, roasted corn, nachos... whatever strikes your patriotic July 3rd outdoor fancy. Kids can take a ride on the wee train, bounce their way through inflatable obstacle houses and have fun playing games in the tent set up for that purpose.

As an added convenience, the city has provided this handy fireworks fallout map, designating areas that will be closed off all day prior to the event (so the fireworks techs can set up the show), and all night afterwards (so the cleanup of spent shells can be accomplished).

NOTE that Moore Rd. (indicated by the blue arrow) will be closed at the entrance to the park on the day of the event.
