Updated: King Tut tickets on sale NOW

Tickets for “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs” at the DMA are now on sale, as of Tuesday. The exhibition opens October 3 and will run through May. The museum "strongly encourages" people to buy their tickets in advance. Yes, it seems weird to have to buy tickets ahead of time to a museum exhibit, but unless you have a lot of free time during the day on non-holiday weekdays, you will need to get them ahead of time because of the expected turnout. Yes, you have to but tickets for a specific day and time, but just think of it like a concert. You even buy the tickets through Ticketmaster (hey, I never said it wouldn't be annoying). Here are a few things to keep in mind when buying your tickets:

• The tickets are $5 more if you go on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a holiday, bringing the price to a whopping $32.50.
• Don't worry! The exhibit will be open for viewing from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm seven days a week, so if you want the more economical price, you can go any day after work. The last tickets sold will be for 6:30 pm, except on Thursdays (7:30) and every third Friday during Late Nights (10:30 pm). While the ticket prices will be higher on a Friday, I think it would be really cool to see the exhibit late at night. Ooh, especially around Halloween. (Insert ghost sounds)
• Yes, there are audio tours. No, they aren't free. An audio tour is $6-$7 and you can buy that on the Tickemaster site too, so don't accidentally buy the audio tour when you think you're buying the tickets.
• There will be a 3-D mummy movie playing in the Horchow Auditorium every hour, except on Mondays. So if that interests you, don't go on a Monday.
• Kroger offers a discounted price of $24.50 on the weekdays or $29.50 on weekends. Check your local Kroger for more details. My guess is you will need to sign up for their coupon card or whatever.
