Everybody has AIDS tests free on June 27, national testing day. Act now.

— To mark National HIV Testing Day (Friday, June 27), Mayor Tom Leppert is joining more than 50 mayors nationwide in urging people to get tested for HIV.

This is the 14th year the National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA) has worked to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.

“If you detect HIV early, there’s a better chance that medication can keep the virus in check, before it progresses to AIDS,” said Mayor Leppert.

“And if you know you’re HIV positive, you can then make sure you don’t pass the virus to someone else.”

As part of the campaign, Mayor Leppert has arranged through NAPWA and Orasure Technologies for 500 rapid oral tests to be donated to the Nelson-Tebedo Health Resource Center in Oak Lawn.

Nelson-Tebedo will be administering the free and private oral tests from 9AM – 5AM at the Center at 4012 Cedar Springs Blvd. Free blood tests will continue until 9PM.

For other locations for free testing in North Texas, 1-800-458-5231.
