Rover Dramawerks, a resident theatre company performing at the Cox Building Playhouse and Courtyard Theater in Plano, has just revealed their new season marking their 9th year in the metroplex. Early Bird Season Tickets are already on sale and can be ordered online, and you’ll get six shows for less than the price of five. Prices will increase to $82 after July 9, 2008.
Here is what is coming in the next year:
- Veronica’s Room, by Ira Levin. From October 30 - November 22, 2008. A young college student is enticed to impersonate Veronica to comfort a woman who is not dealing with the reality of her sister’s death. Who is Veronica? Is there a Veronica? Is it 1973...or 1935? A chilling thriller from the author of Deathtrap, Rosemary’s Baby, and The Stepford Wives.
- The Star-Spangled Girl, by Neil Simon. From January 22 - February 14, 2009. When an all-American, patriotic girl moves in next door to two earnest young men using their apartment as a publishing office for a “protest” magazine, love is certain to be in the air! The only question is how the hilarious triangle will be resolved. Love and politics artfully blend in this delightful early Neil Simon classic rarely performed professionally!
- Around the World in 80 Days, by Laura Eason*, adapted from the novel by Jules Verne. From March 5-21, 2009. Phileas Fogg has determined, with mathematical precision, that the world can be circumnavigated in 80 days. On this belief, he has wagered his entire fortune. Will an act of chivalry, an unreliable but ever faithful valet, and an unrelenting inspector from Scotland Yard keep him from his impossible task? Follow Mr. Fogg aboard steamships, locomotives, and pachyderms as he learns about love, himself, and a world that he never anticipated. * Pending confirmation of rights.
- The Best of One Day Only, Vol. 2, from April 4-5, 2009. Some of the best plays from the past twelve One Day Only 24-hour play festivals!
- Days of Wine and Roses, by J.P. Miller. From June 4-27, 2009. Made famous by the Academy Award winning film, this is the unfiltered exploration of a love triangle between two people and booze. Joe and Kirsten fall in love over social drinking that becomes a habit too hard to break. What happens to a relationship based on such a liquid foundation? Their denial leads to shattering events — a career in shambles, a marriage destroyed, the esteem of friends and family lost, and a child who has become the innocent victim of their obsession.
- Epic Proportions, by Larry Coen and David Crane. From July 16 - August 8, 2009. Gone With the Wind, Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments... these masterpieces have nothing on Exeunt Omnes, a huge epic film being shot in the Arizona desert in the 1930s. Brothers Benny and Phil are two of the 3,400 extras, both of whom fall in love with Louise, the assistant director in charge of extras. Throw in ten plagues, gladiator battles, and a misfiring burning bush, and suddenly Phil is directing the movie, now starring Benny and Louise. With heroic figures, extravagant settings, lavish costumes, a sweeping musical score...and a cast of thousands portrayed by four other actors, this is truly a comedy of epic proportions!
- One Day Only 13, on August 29, 2009. The thirteenth installment of seven short plays concept to curtain in just ONE DAY!
- My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, conceived by David Grapes and Todd Olson. From September 10 - October 3, 2009. A musical tribute to the songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, “the first modern pop superstar.” This elegant evening contains fifty-six songs sung by four great singers including All the Way, Fly Me to The Moon, I Only Have Eyes For You, It Was A Very Good Year, The Lady Is A Tramp, My Funny Valentine, New York, New York, and of course, My Way. A bright, breezy tribute to one of the greatest vocalist of all time.
And don't miss the rest of Rover's 2007-08 Season. Gilligan's Island: the Musical featuring everyone's favorite castways, runs through Saturday, June 28, followed by the beautiful romance, Mary's Wedding July 10 - August 2, the twelfth installment of One Day Only on August 30, and ending with the hilarious Shakespeare in Hollywood from September 11 - October 4. You can even get "rest of this season" tickets online, so get them now before it's too late!
