Two familiar names running for McKinney mayor

If a combined sixteen years of experience is any indication of popularity, two newly announced bids for McKinney’s mayoral prize should come as no surprise to those who have kept an eye on the city council for the last six to 10 years.

Brian Loughmiller, 48, a former two-time Place 4 city councilman, announced his bid for mayor last Friday. Three days later, Loughmiller’s peer, Thad Helsley, 47, a former at-large councilman, did the same for the May 2009 election.

Loughmiller began his tenure on the city council in 2002. Helsley was originally elected to one of the city’s two at-large seats in 1998, serving one four-year term before council instituted term limits in 2002. Helsley then served two three-year terms for a combined 10 years on council.
